Cognac hosts the best wine merchant of france competition for the first time
An event organized by Terre de Vins, from October 19 to 21, 2024.
For the first time, the biennial Best Wine Merchant of France competition, created by the Syndicat des Cavistes Professionnels and organized by Terre de Vins, will take place in the heart of the Cognac region. This fifth edition, scheduled from October 19 to 21, 2024, at Les Chais Monnet, offers a unique opportunity to highlight the Cognac appellation and its region to key influencers, the wine merchants. The Cognac industry, represented by the Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac (BNIC) and renowned houses like Hennessy, Martell, Rémy Martin, ABK6, Bache-Gabrielsen, Louis Royer, Tesseron, and Voyer, will showcase the expertise and diversity of this profession to 40 competing wine merchants from across France.
Cognac is hosting the Best Wine Merchant of France competition for the first time, with three days of competition in the heart of the appellation, from October 19 to 21. This biennial competition, open to all wine merchants in France, whether independent or part of a network, aims to promote and enhance the profession. Through this partnership, the Cognac industry reaffirms its support for professional wine merchants, an essential activity for the development and promotion of Cognac in France.
The 40 pre-selected professionals, after a first round in May, will face quizzes on knowledge, wine tasting commentaries, and sales simulations involving wines and spirits in this final phase of the competition.
In addition to the main events, the competing professionals will enjoy an immersion into the world of Cognac, including:
- A dedicated Cognac tasting area at Les Chais Monnet;
- Receptions organized by partner houses focusing on different ways to enjoy Cognac and its gastronomic pairings.
During the event, the wine merchants will have the chance to discover or rediscover Cognac cocktails through original creations and explore Cognac-food pairings. The four winners will be invited back for exclusive tourist experiences in a region positioning itself as a major wine tourism destination.
